There are times that we all feel vulnerable. No matter where we are on the food chain of life. Age, economic, education, relationship, etc. There are those days, weeks, events that want to swallow us. No one is immune. One of the first things that I taught my children was, “Life is Not Fair”. Don’t expect it to be. You will not feel as if you deserve….. if you understand this logical thought process. With some exceptions, Life is what you make it. The children’s story of the Grasshopper is a wonderful analogy. If you don’t know the story:
The Ant and the Grasshopper
In a field one summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.
“Why not come and chat with me,” said the Grasshopper, “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?”
“I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and recommend you to do the same.”
“Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper; “We have got plenty of food at present.” But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil.
When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger – while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew: It is best to prepare for days of need.
As I have said before, we have choices. Choose to be more positive! Refuse to give up!!! Each morning, find a mirror, and talk to yourself (sounds silly, but do it). Tell yourself for a month, I am strong, I am good, I am happier than yesterday, I am beautiful. You don’t have to believe it the first day. The second day it seems more real and by the end of the month, not only will you be say it in the mirror but to people you know. On those days of despair, like the ads, “Just Say No” to negativity, to self doubt, to depression and make a determined effort to work on yourself! Have you ever really wanted anything? Money? Man/Woman? Drugs? Alcohol? Do you know what you need? A happier you. Once you get that, you will get the good things that you want because you value yourself and not care so much about the bad, because…. you value yourself.
Because you REFUSE to give up on yourself. I still do it everyday…
