I hope everyone had a grand Mother’s Day. And remember Father’s Day is coming up soon! Children, don’t be sad everyday is your day until you are a grown up… Learn some good life lessons now, it only gets harder later 🙂
This weekend I was talking to someone about the perks of being unique*. Not quite fitting into the “crowd”… Back before “dirt” when I was in school, we were called the smart kids, the band nerds, the shy kids, the smokers, whoever was not the “in group”… However, then I don’t remember bulling being as prevalent as it is in our school system as it is today. There are so many reasons to fear for the safety for children in our schools today, bully’s certainly should not be one of them! Children are dying over it! First, where are the teachers & administrators, second, where are the parents? When these kids are caught, I understand that there is only so much that the school can do, but at some point can’t you expel the perpetrator? And when the perpetrator is sent home, why aren’t they punished to the point they REALLY don’t want to do that again? Do people not teach, TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED anymore? We just grew up beating ourselves up over it. And those of us who understood that something was wrong with this scenario, not necessarily the kids wanted more for our children. I emphasized to my boys to be themselves, to own their actions, to march to the beat of their own drummer. If you get in trouble, do it because you did it, not because someone else put you up to it. If you do something good, get the credit… They were team players. And mostly excelled. And never backed down to taking the blame. Enough about mine… What’s wrong about teaching our children (and ourselves) to celebrate and love who we are! If we did more of this, school systems, this is for you!!! The group mentality would not lead, cause fear, and control. It is the differences in us that pushes greatness and beauty. Schools organize groups for the outgoing “in” kids, how about small functions for readers, writers, inventors, musicians, thinkers, etc. And control the audience of trouble makers who want to make fun these kids. Here is a quote that I found that should be taught to every person, not only school child…
If you don’t know your own worth and value, THEN DO NOT expect someone else to calculate it for you. Anonymous
Our worth is what we make it… It is not what you do, but how well you do it! And how happy you are with yourself… Can you look at yourself in the mirror in the mornings? What do you say? Please remember the past is past, tomorrow is future, and only today is the day that we can do something about. If you want to be loved for you. Start today. If you feel down, or being dragged into the past, here’s another anonymous quote that I love and hope you do to!
An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulty, just imagine what it’s going to launch you into something great 🙂
* On being unique = Would you prefer beautiful nature to be unique or all much the same?
